THE COMPANY

Berkshire Biodiesel is building one of the Northeast’s first commercial-scale biodiesel production facilities at the former Beloit R&D facility in Pittsfield, Mass.

Berkshire Biodiesel is the Massachusetts-based development arm of NorthWinds Biodiesel, an affiliate company of NorthWinds Renewables, a merchant banking firm focused exclusively on the renewable energy industry.

At full production, Berkshire Biodiesel will produce 50 million gallons of soybean-oil-based biodiesel annually. Plant construction is expected to begin in mid- to late-2007, with biodiesel production starting in late 2008.

What is biodiesel?

Biodiesel is a clean-burning alternative fuel that can be used in existing diesel engines, in power generation, and for home heating. It is less toxic than table salt, bio-degrades as fast as sugar, and is essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. It also sharply reduces greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, and the health risks associated with petroleum diesel, and because biodiesel is produced from domestic, renewable resources, each gallon of biodiesel displaces a gallon of diesel fuel made with foreign oil.

Clean, Green Electricity

Berkshire Biodiesel also intends to use some of the biodiesel we produce to generate clean, green, affordable electricity for cities, towns, and companies in the region that now pay some of the highest rates for electricity in the nation.
